Below are they gradings of the 5 complete Uncle Scrooge stories from 1965 :

US-60 : "Phantom of Notre Duck"

US-61 : "So Far and No Safari"

US-62 : "Queen of the Wild Dog Pack"

Quality Valuation of original comic book pages = A - B - C

In this section, I have created a ranking of the 120 surviving comic book pages from the five Uncle Scrooge stories: US-59, US-60, US-61, US-62, and US-63. Normally, I would say that any original page by Carl Barks is a good page, but in this case, imagine that you could only choose one page for your collection. You would need to make a priority list.

Pages sold in auctions, such as Heritage Auctions, demonstrate this clearly. Some pages are undoubtedly more important or valuable than others. Of course, it is always subjective what a collector or reader might consider better pages than others, but at the same time, some parameters for valuing the pages could be defined.

For instance, we must consider aspects such as the time period for the art being made and the page's contents, such as the main characters and objects. Also, the perspective of the art is important. Are the characters drawn in their full pose or only half? How many characters are shown on the page? Is it a dynamic or more flowing page?

In this study, I have chosen the 120 surviving Uncle Scrooge pages from the 1960s as they are good representatives for a quality ranking because they are very similar regarding the time period. Obviously, this is not an official grading, but rather my own personal opinion on grading. I am confident that most Carl Barks comic art collectors would agree, but if you have another opinion, please contact me for a debate.

I have chosen three grading categories for the study :

"A" category: Contains important main characters in extremely good poses, famous known objects (such as The Money Bin), and extraordinary drawings or panels (such as splash panels). The "A" category always includes the title page from the story, which opens with a splash panel. "A" pages can also contain very detailed panels and many characters from the story.

"B" category: Pages also have many characters, but in some cases, they are only half-shown, or there are panels drawn only as black silhouettes. Some panels may also look very similar.

"C" category: Pages where the main characters are very small (seen from a long distance). The main characters from the story are missing (e.g., Uncle Scrooge).

The total conclusion of the total 120 pages from Uncle Scrooge stories :  39 pages in the "A" categori, 57 pages in the "B" categori and 24 pages in the "C" categori.

The numbers marked with white shows in how many panels a main character is visible on the given page.
