US-61 : "So Far and No Safari"

US-62 : "Queen of the Wild Dog Pack"

Quality Valuation of original comic book pages = A - B - C

In this section I have made a graduation of the 120 survived comic book pages survived form the 5 Uncle Scrooge stories US-59, US-60, US-61, US-62 and US-63.

I would normally always say that ANY original page by Carl Barks is a good page - but consider this : If you had they possibility to just choose one page you will always begin making a priority list.

Pages sold on for example Heritage Auctions proofs this very clearly. Some pages are with no doubt more important or valued than others.

Of course it is always very individual what a collector or viewer would defind as better pages. I surely accept that. But in the same time it is common sense that some parameters for valuing the pages could be defined.

For instance we have to part with aspects as timeperiod for the art being made and what the pages contents ; maincharacters, objects, etc. Also the perspective of the art is important ; Are the characters drawn in their full pose or only half..? How many characters is shown on the page, is it a dynamic or more flowing page..?

In this study I have made the test for the 120 survived Uncle Scrooge from the 1960`ies as they are good representatives for a quality graduation because they are very equal regarding the time period. Obvious this is not an official grading but my own personal guide opinion in grading. I am pretty sure most Carl Barks comic art collectors would agree. If you have another opinion, please contact me for a debate.

I have chosen 3 grading categories for the study :

A = Contains important main characters in extremely good poses, famous known objects ( The Money Bin ) and extra ordinary drawings or panels. ( Splash panels ). In the "A" categori we will always find the titlepage from the story which always opens with a Splash panel. "A" pages can also contain very detailed panels and many characters from the story.

B = Pages also with many charaters - but in some cases they are only half shown or there is panels drawn only as black silhouettes. Some panels could also looks very identical.

C = Pages where the main characters is very small ( Seen from a long distance ). Main characters from the story are missing ( Uncle Scrooge ).

The total conclusion of the total 120 pages from Uncle Scrooge stories :  39 pages in the "A" categori, 57 pages in the "B" categori and 24 pages in the "C" categori.

The numbers marked with white shows in how many panels a main character is visible on the given page.
